About Us

The Watchmen Gospel Singers, formed in 2008 was the result of an idea and vision of one of our members, John Bellamy, who has always had a passion for singing, particularly acapella, close harmony, barbershop style.

John chose the name Watchmen Singers, as he was reading the book of Ezekiel chapter 3 verses 17 - 19. He visualised the group of men as being Watchmen for the Lord and to spread and share in song, how to find hope, peace, forgiveness, healing and the meaning of life through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The choir consists of ten Christian men who are all members of Cranleigh Community Church based in Southbourne, Bournemouth.

We rehearse each week amidst a lot of fun and laughter and have grown in confidence as we build our repertoire. Some of the harmonies we do are very complex and challenging and it has been a steep learning curve, but well worth all the effort and hard work, as increasingly, we are beginning to arrange our own songs/harmonies, and perform them confidently at concerts.

John has also written the melody and words of a couple of our songs and we have included them in our concerts, adding our own arrangements and style. We look forward to more original work from John.

Since our humble beginnings we have gone into the community and performed at many charitable events and functions. Our programmes have been varied and have included solo instrumental items from members of the group as well as the famous monologue from Brian who never fails to make people laugh, plus we are fortunate to have Bill who doesn't sing with the choir but plays his harmonica... all styles of music and always well appreciated by audiences.

We love to sing and perform and help raise funds for worthy causes, and as we are self- financing, any money raised goes direct to the nominated charity.
